Open role
Deployment Engineer (Forward Deployed)
Edge is looking for a full-stack engineer to build AI-powered software for enterprise commodity customers, going from a trading desk's workflow to a working demo in days.
About Edge & the role
Edge is building the AI-native platform for commodity risk management: real-time data, forecasting, and now an agentic teammate. We are a small team, so you will work directly with the founders, watch your work go from idea to a live customer in the same week, and hold real equity in the outcome.
Edge is backed by top Seed investors, and currently deployed at Fortune 500 food companies and large Commodity trading houses.
What you'll do
- Build custom modules and workflows on top of Edge's agent platform for enterprise customers in commodity markets, work that closes and expands contracts and accelerates revenue
- Show something working within days, then iterate based on customer feedback until the product solves the customer problem. No long build phase, no handoff to anyone else
- Work the full stack: React/TypeScript front ends, Python back ends, and the agent layer in between (prompts, tools, structured outputs) where most of the leverage lives
- Run multiple accounts at once: one heavy build plus lighter threads like a fix from last week's feedback or a data backfill; you own everything technical
- Travel to customer sites: trading floors, Fortune 500s, food and agriculture co-ops, to conduct discovery and gather feedback. You see the workflow where it happens and demo your own work to the people who use it
- Generalize repeated one-off builds into the core product, and follow your work into the platform when it graduates
What we're looking for
- 1 to 5 years of engineering experience with solid Python and TypeScript; full-stack comfort matters more than depth in any one layer
- Hands-on experience building with LLMs: agents, tool calling, RAG, structured outputs. Shipped systems, not prompt experiments
- Product taste you can show us: front ends people chose to use, side projects that real users touched
- Comfortable in front of customers. You can sit with a trader or risk manager, absorb a workflow you have never seen, and come back in days with AI-powered software that solves their problem
- Real customer empathy: you want to understand how their business works, not just their requirements, and you care about earning trust, not just shipping a feature
- Pragmatic under a real quality bar: your work ships through the same CI, release pipeline, and security controls as core engineering. You are not expected to build the general solution, just a correct one for this customer
- Fast in a 0 to 1 environment; you stay on top of the latest AI tools and practices, use them well, and stay accountable for what ships
- NYC-based, fully in-person (5 days/week)
You might be a great fit if
- You are early in your career with more ambition than your current job has room for, and you want your output tied directly to revenue
- Flying onsite to discover how a top commodity desk or Fortune 500 commodity procurement team operates excites you
- You take ownership and have shipped things end to end on nimble teams, where nobody was going to write the spec for you
- You are naturally curious and enjoy learning your way into topics you do not know yet. Commodities and trading knowledge is a big plus, not a requirement
